History

The idea for the Nazareth Center for Christian Studies began in 2001 when a group of leaders from the Association of Baptist Churches (ABC) Israel and Scottish theologian Dr. Bryson Arthur met together to discuss the possibility of a Theological College in Nazareth as a project of the ABC. The decision was made to begin, and a proposal for a curriculum was drawn up along with a proposal for the future College. The immediate challenge was in finding a suitable location.

The dream thus conceived, Dr. Arthur returned to Scotland to engage in pastoral ministry where he remained for three years, with little or no word on the progress of the College in Nazareth. In 2005 Dr Arthur was once again called to Israel, but this time on a more permanent basis. Through a series of miraculous events, a location had been purchased for the use of the College and the ABC requested he return and assist in the official opening of the Nazareth Center for Christian Studies. After much prayer and preparation, Dr. Arthur and his wife accepted this call and the unanimous agreement of the ABC Council followed. The return happened in May 2006.

Preparation work took place over the next year. Accredited degree programmes were set up, together with the assembling of the lecturing staff. The academic library also began to build shape and the College opened its doors to 20 degree students in September 2007.
